Veeru Devgan, Action Director And Ajay Devgn's Dad Passes Away At 85
Veteran action choreographer and director and father of Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn, Veeru Devgan passed away on Monday, May 27. He was 85 and suffering from age-related health issues. Sources close to the family reveal he was admitted at Mumbai hospital for the same. The family held the funeral in Vile Parle on Monday evening.
Veeru Devgan is known for choreographing several action sequences in over 80 Bollywood films, most of them in the ’90s. Trade analyst Tarun Adarsh had posted on his Twitter about Veeru Devgan’s death on Monday afternoon: “Veeru Devgan passed away this morning (27 May 2019)… Father of Ajay Devgn… Veeru ji was an accomplished action director. Also directed the Hindustan Ki Kasam, starring son Ajay with Amitabh Bachchan… Heartfelt condolences to Devgn family.”

Sham Kaushal, action director and father of Vicky Kaushal paid his tribute to the stunt director on Twitter saying, “RIP Veeru Devgan ji. Just came to know about this sad news. As an action director always ahead of his times and as human being par excellence. I became a stuntman with his blessings on August 8, 1980, as he signed my application to become a stuntman and made me part of his team.”

Filmmaker Kunal Kohli offered his condolences on Twitter: “RIP Veeru Devgan ji. A legend of Hindi cinema. Left his mark at a time when pure action, without VFX, was the order of the day. Heartfelt condolences to Ajay and Kajol. May his soul rest in peace. Prayers are with the family.”
Ashoke Pandit, film producer, in his tribute wrote: “Sad to know that veteran action director Veeru Devgan Ji is no more. He was a genius in choreographing fights on the big screen when there were no facilities available. My heartfelt condolences to Ajay Devgn and the entire family. As soon as the news of Veeru Devgan’s news spread, several Bollywood stars reached Ajay Devgn’s residence to pay their gratitude. Shah Rukh Kha, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Sunny Deol and others paid a visit to Ajay Devgn and his family.
Veeru Devgan is credited for action scenes in several renowned movies like Kranti, Aaj Ka Arjun, Mr Natwarlal, Mr India, Shahenshah and Tridev. He worked as an assistant director for films like Vishwatma and Mera Pati Sirf Mera Hai and produced Dil Kya Kare and Singhasan. Veeru’s only movie as a director was 1999’s Hindustan Ki Kasam which starred his son Ajay Devgn opposite Manisha Koirala and Amitabh Bachchan.
