Notre Dame: As Flames Loose Strength, Bollywood Shares Pain Of The French
As fire erupted through the roof, engulfing the 850-year-old Notre Dame, all of France and the world watched in horror. After a fire broke out at the cathedral during the renovation work on Monday, the spire fell as the firefighters fought hard to bring the fire under control. According to reports, some 400 firefighters were engaged in a battle to control the flames all through the night. The early hours of Tuesday revealed that the fire had been brought under control, nine hours after it started.
As Macron expressed relief that “the worst had been avoided” in a blaze that almost threatened the entire edifice and left France in shock over the havoc to a building that is considered to be the soul of the nation.
The world mourned over the horror it witnessed and consoled the French people. People took to social media to show their support and soon #PrayersforParis spread across. Among those who offered to console were Bollywood celebs. Actors including Vicky Kaushal, Riteish Deshmukh and Tamannaah Bhatia were seen posting their disbelief online with pictures from their last visit to the Cathedral. Riteish wrote, “This is world tragedy #NorteDame –I have no words to express my sadness. To every Notre Dame lover – am so so sorry.”
Notre Dame had survived all through the wars and bombardments. Its spire was originally placed between the 13th and 18th centuries and was remade in the 19th century.
