Land Rover India Announcement: Land Rover Defender Coming Soon

Jaguar Land Rover recently listed the 2020 Land Rover Defender on its India site. Did that get you excited? Yes, that obviously means when Land Rover Defender debuts later this year, it will not be making a global debut, it will soon be available for the Indian fans too. That’s fantastic!

Right now, the new-gen Defender is undergoing final stages of development. According to Jaguar Land Rover (JLC), by the time of the date for its launch arrives, Defender will have passed more than 45,000 individual tests in some of the most extreme environments across the world. Last month, Land Rover had announced that the 2020 Defender has already breached the 1.2-million-kilometre testing landmark.

There aren’t many details yet available. All we have seen are a couple of images of their prototype models well camouflaged, undergoing testing. The next-gen Defender is codenamed L663 and still carries the signature bug and boxy SUV lines. Another thing carrying forward from its older generations, Land Rover Defender is expected to come in two wheelbase options- a shorter series 90 and longer series 110. We saw both these prototype models in the images released by Land Rover.

The looks and other visual bits cannot be ascertained right as the company is keeping them tightly under wraps. Although, by the looks of it the SUV will come with full-LED headlamps, beefy front bumpers with huge air vents, larger ORVMs and a tailgate-mounted spare wheel of course.

Technical specs are unknown. However, chances are Land Rover may use their tried and tested 2.0-litre diesel engine from their Ingenium family. On top of that, the new Defender might get an additional hybrid motor in the coming future. Exciting, isn’t it?
