Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Breaks Avenger: Endgame's Record
After long teasing the dire fans with epic cinematic and gameplay trailers, Activision finally released the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare on October 25 this year. And the game has, so far, been received well, and when we say well, we mean the game got a spectacular response.
Let us put all these things in plain figures for you… The latest release in the highly popular Call of Duty franchise made for than $600 million in sell-through worldwide in just three days of release. Now, you can all gasp.
Activision, the game’s publisher confirmed the news through an official announcement and said the game broke a number of records too. Here we go:
- Top-Selling New Premium Game Release of 2019
- Biggest Selling Digital Opening in Activision History
- Set PS4 Record with Highest Digital Sales in the First Three Days
- Sold More Units in the First Three Days Than Any Other Call of Duty Three-Day Opening In This Console Generation
- Biggest Call of Duty PC Launch Ever
Those are a big set of record-breaking for a game that has been loved by millions of gamers from across the world and has developed an emotional attachment with the game characters that have turned into icons. When you decide to bring back these iconic characters, you’re bound to get a good initial response. But bringing back iconic characters is one thing; the game, on the whole, should be good too. And Activision hit it out of the park with this one. By bringing back Captain Price, Activision struck the old chords of the die-hard fans and with story and gameplay that good, they managed to revive themselves after a streak of dismal Call of Duty games.
When you try and put these numbers in comparison to Hollywood movies, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2019 made double of Joker’s box office opening. According to Wikipedia, the game even broke Avengers: Endgame’s first three days earning.
To explain sell-through sales figure of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2019, it includes retail and digital unit sales and revenues which also includes sales of the Defender DLC pack, for the opening three days after the initial launch.
